No sound output through lightning to audio plug adapter

I normally output audio through the lightning connector by way of the lightning to 3.5 mm connector. This has been working for many years and all of a sudden when I plug the lightning connector into the phone the audio on the phone speaker does not cut out and no ordeal is outputted to the audio connector. I have replaced the adapter and tested it on another iPhone and it seems to work fine but it does not work on my phone which is in I OS 8 phone

Have you tried a forced restart? It resolves a lot of miscellaneous issues. It does much more than just turning your device off and back on.

Continue hold the button and the off swipe disappears, black screen shows for 30 seconds maybe longer, release button when Apple logo appears on the screen.

At the top of the article is a drop down to add your specific iOS version. Click on the drop down and select the appropriate iOS for your device.

The drop down menu only goes down to 12

actually I found out that my phone is only a 7+

I search for how to do a hard restart and it's pretty much said the same thing but when I do it all happens is that the shutdown slide shows up

Thanks, for the speedy reply . I have an old iOS eight phone and the instructions that you linked me to dose not include something that ancient

I finally made it to the black screen and then held the button for at least five minutes more until my finger started to cramp and no Apple logo appeared
