Why is pasting without formatting so complicated on MacBook Air?

The issue with MacBooks is that pasting text without formatting requires four key strokes: Option + Shift + Command + V. This is cumbersome compared to simpler shortcuts like Command + V for regular pasting, making it less efficient for users who frequently need unformatted text.

You can look into third-party keyboard utilities such as Karabiner-Elements:

https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org/

or Keyboard Maestro:

https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/

Those all you to create custom key commands. There's one already existing in the community archive for Karabiner Elements that maps Right Command-V to paste without formatting. There are probably others, or you could probably create a setup yourself that would more suit you, perhaps a function key.

Regards.

The funny thing is, the paste without formatting option doesn’t even appear when I right-click. Even if nothing can be done about the shortcut (which feels like trying to play the piano while figuring out how to press four keys together in the least awkward way), I would strongly encourage Apple to add the paste without formatting option to the right-click menu.

If command and control are key functions, their placement should be spaced out appropriately. The control key, in particular, is awkwardly positioned between the option and function keys, making it difficult to access. Many users operate the mouse with their right hand and rely on their left hand for shortcuts. Ideally, shortcuts should be arranged to facilitate easy navigation. For example, most users likely press the command key with their thumb and reach for alphabet keys with their index finger. However, pressing the control key together often requires an uncomfortable hand twist that feels unnatural. The layout should be ergonomically designed for better usability.
