Outlook items stuck in my calendar, cannot delete

Among my "Accounts" I have an Exchange account (for work). It is syncing correctly, for the most part. For example, I just got a meeting invite and it showed up in Calendar.app as well as Outlook. However, Calendar is showing two events for today (on that specific calendar, in that account) that are not in my Outlook calendar. Both show "This event was imported (read-only)" at the bottom of the details. The context menu shows a (not-disabled) "Delete" item, but choosing that simply deselects the event. I have rebooted the computer to no avail. I can choose "Refresh Calendars" and it completes without error, but the events remain. I'm not seeing any error logs in the Console (but maybe I'm not looking in the right spot?) I've tried both "Push" and "Every minute" for the "Refresh Calendars" settings.

How can I ensure that previously-deleted events like these are purged?

Short answer: turning off the calendars for the account and then turning them back on again (and maybe temporarily disabling and re-enabling the account) fixed it.

Details:

Turning off "Calendars" for that account removed the calendars from Calendar.app (not surprisingly). Turning them back on again showed no calendars for about 10 minutes. During that time I opened the Console, turned on live streaming and I see an unending spam of messages at 10Hz+ from exchangesyncd process, mostly:

default 09:21:51.855508-0700 exchangesyncd Connection interrupted

but also stuff like:

Eventually the calendar showed up in Calendars.app again, with the errorneous events gone. The exchange sync process has also finally settled down.
