AirPods 4 - audio switches to 24kHz when talking

In macOS Sequoia, it was advertised that AirPods 4 and Pro 2 would get 48kHz audio while talking in a game. When I try this with my AirPods, the audio swaps to 24kHz. I checked this using the audio midi setup app, and there’s no way to change it back to 48kHz. I went to a genius about this and they told me that there was nothing they could do because my AirPods passed their audio tests, and the support online is useless. Does anyone else have this issue?
