Installing MacOS on 2012-vintage MacBook Pro

Wanted to give this machine to someone, so erased disc on disc utilities, and then proceeded on to click 'Installation of MacOS'. This sent me to a window that begins installation of macOS High Sierra. After clicking 'continue', a message came up that reads " The recovery server could not be contacted" So I restarted ... holding this time OPTION, COMMAND and R keys. Same result, so tried holding SHIFT, OPTION, COMMAND and R keys on restart. Same result ... "The recovery server could not be contacted" Not sure what to do from here....

Unfortunately, that is a known problem with the recovery server. The workaround is a bit technical, but if you want to pursue it, here is a link to the procedure ... [FIXED] High Sierra “The Recovery Server Could Not Be Contacted” Error. High Sierra Internet Recovery is Still Online, but Broken!

The "problem" is that tiny but oh-so-meaningful difference between http: and https: !! (Well, actually, the problem is in the internal security framework, but dropping the "s" gets around the problem.)

ps. I tried it some months ago and it does work (Fix #3 - the NVRAM fix).
