Problems After Using Migration Assistant to newer iMac with Sequoia
I am in the midst of moving from a 2015 iMac with Monterey (12.7.6) to a 2020 iMac with a new Sequoia (15.1.1) and have some problems after using the Migration Assistant to do this.
The first problem is that I can’t start iCloud files using the finder. A message pops up ‘to open iCloud, Open Apple ID settings.’
I notice Keynote and Pages were both upgraded from 12.1 versions to 14.2 versions. I found out that the .key and .pages migrated using the Mig'n ***’t are keynote 12.1 files that would be saved as 14.2 files if modified. And once a file is saved by 14.1, it can no longer be opened by the 12.1 Keynote app.
Even though my new iMac (10 core 3.6 GHz i9 with SSD) should be faster than my old one (4 core 32 GHz i5 with HDD), opening the same .key file is much slower.
In general .key files can be launched using Pathfinder but are very slow and often I can’t open an existing file. I often get a message ‘can’t read the file – try opening with a previous version’. If I start a new Keynote, it is painfully slow, as if it’s going through a recovery process or an autosave after each keystroke that takes ~ 15 seconds.
On my new system, other apps are using the cloud without problems, including Calendar, Photos, Contacts, Passwords, Mail, and Messages which have each been tested. But I can’t figure out why Finder cannot use the iCloud.
In the System Settings , my iCloud drive has 33.5GB used out of my subscription for 200GB.
I am loathe to downgrade to Sonoma as I have added some new licensed aps and spent a lot of time housekeeping my iCloud files. Apparently, a maintenance release of Sequoia 15.1.1 is supposed to be released soon. Can I expect that may offer fixes for the Keynote and finder/Cloud problems that I have?
