I used Pages to make some illustrations for a publication. The publisher needs them exported at 600 dpi. I can't figure out how to export from Pages at 600 dpi. Any ideas? The preferred format is tiff.
600dpi sounds odd unless the images are in fact Black and White (2 bit) in which case it actually seems too low, 1200dpi would be my resolution for that.
The size/resolution/format of the image is determined in the original image. You need to have enough pixels for the finished size in the layout.
In the ante-diluvian American measurement system that means taking the final size in Pages and multiply the measurement in inches x 600 to get how many pixels you need.
Whilst it is OK to
reduce the image's resolution, it 99% of the time will be a very bad idea to increase the resolution which just turns it into blurred rubbish.
You did not say what the images were or their origin. If scanned you need to scan them to size. If supplied you need to specify that they be accurate/adequate resolution.
Depending on what they are, Preview .app can change to the necessary resolution and save out as .tiff files.
Don't go changing things willy-nilly however, not everything can just be switched around at will without damaging the image quality.
Fill us in a bit more with what the images are and how they are being used i& printed n your publication.
Excellent advice from Yvan and Peter. Have you discussed using a electronic Pages file with the Publisher and/or Pre-Press department? That is a little unusual if they prefer or will even accept it. So just make sure you verbally convey to the publisher what you are doing and what they can work with successfully.
