I have inadvertently entered wrong password? and have been locked out for several hours. Using a cord I turned off phone, waited several hours plugged into laptop (hooked up to Wi-Fi), plugged into phone and held home button down until it told me I was again locked out for an hour. Now what do I do? Should I be using my iPad to unlock the iPhone? Thanks!

You cannot restore your iPhone from your computer via Bluetooth. You must connect it via a cable, and that cable must be capable of carrying data, not just charging. Then you need to follow the procedure in the support article KiltedTim linked to in the first reply to your original post.
Note also that as Bob said, if you have Apple Devices installed, you will use that app to restore your iPad, not iTunes.

I already did this once so sorry if it’s redundant.
After downloading an app I created a password upon cue then entered my passcode. My usernames and password/ codes are written down. My press pads are glitching (time for a new phone). Upon entering code, error message of wrong code came up. Retried then locked out for an hour. After trying a few more times with lockouts for an hour each I went to sleep. This morning the phone no longer had lockout on. From reading I knew I needed to reset. Phone screen appeared pale, pinkish orange, and did show time of day as normal. Prior to downloading the iTunes app, I plugged cable into computer then phone, then immediately pressed home circle and continuously held. Locked out message for 1 hour came on again. Unplugged all, turned off phone, read some more. Downloaded iTunes app onto computer, turned on Bluetooth on computer and waited. Tried again, received lock out message again. My phone is not listed on the Asus as a device, seemed involved to do it and didn’t want to mess up my laptop so stopped. Here we are. Thank you for your help.
Thank you for the quick reply. Sorry my laptop is Asus vivobook pro 15 oled. Just downloaded iTunes app. Can I now use this computer?
