Having trouble removing a "Media & Purchases" account from a MacBook?
I had apparently used an old Apple ID on my wife's laptop, to log in to Apple TV or something, and, much later, she started seeing a warning message popping up on her screen that said "Error. Unable to log in to Apple Services because of a problem with [my old Apple ID]." I no longer knew the password for that account or for the email address that was associated with that account (and I had a different phone number now, too). We tried dozens of ways to remove that account from her laptop, as the error message would just pop up at random times, and because she works remotely, often this would happen at really annoying times. We followed lots of steps in 'solutions' that others offered on these support forums. Nothing worked -- specifically, we would go into her Apple account, system settings, media & purchases, and there would be my old account listed there, along with hers, and when we would click on the "Manage" button, it would ask us to log in to that old Apple account (which, as I've mentioned, we could not do). Anyway, even though it's not exactly the same problem/error message, we followed (roughly) the steps detailed in the Wordpress article linked to below, and it seems to have solved the issue -- my old Apple account no longer shows up on her "media & purchases" system-settings window (and the error message pop-up appears to no longer be happening). Hallelujah. Thank you to the author of this article (below). I wanted to post this here, because there were lots of "Me too"s -- and no solutions that we could find -- elsewhere on these Apple Support pages.
