You just need to have Find My turned on. That is not something that can be done remotely, but with it on the location will be reported to you if:
- The battery is not dead
- It is connected to the Internet or another iPhone is nearby to transmit the location via Bluetooth communication with the Mac.
- Location Services is turned on
