New iPad Air M2 connectivity issues with Xfinity WiFi

Hi - We changed Wifi from Fios to Xfinity a little over a week ago, and my old iPad Air (<2 years old) was working great. I decided to trade it in as the battery was draining quickly. I purchased a New iPad Air 13" M2 WiFi, which hasn't worked correctly since setting it up. I've erased/restored it several times. The issues are that random apps/websites, hyperlinks, favorites, etc, will not open. I've called Apple Tech Support several times, reset the router multiple times, and am beyond frustrated. All other devices in our home are working properly, including my iPhone 16 Pro and Macbook Air. Has anyone else experienced this - HELP, PLEASE?!?

Most basic step: Restart your router by removing all power for about 15 seconds (Many routers no longer have a power switch that turns them completely off).

Other than that, do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.

Start with basic WiFi troubleshooting - as detailed here:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Consider that your Router, to which you are attempting to connect, may be configured to require support for security features that are not supported by older versions of iOS. If you have an older iPad and your router is configured for WPA3 or WPA3/WPA2 mixed authentication, you will need to change this to WPA2 PSK(AES). Newer models of iPad support WPA3.

Some Mesh WiFi Routers are known to be troublesome in some circumstances.

If your WiFi has been set-up according to Apple’s recommended settings, WiFi and Internet connection difficulties are usually an indication that your device does not have a routable IP Address - your IP Address usually being assigned by DHCP. When this occurs, your iPad may only have a self-assigned link-local IP address that begins 169.254.x.x.

If you continue to have difficulties, check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can cause issues if specific MAC addresses are expected by your WiFi Router. You may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

Is it a problem with the WiFi cards, or with the M2 chips? Wonder why there are too many complains regarding WiFi issues with devices that are using the M2 chip. I have an iPad Pro 11in 4th gen and it’s fine, but I’m wondering about the Apple’s quality worsening, hmmm

There have been no widespread reports of Wi-Fi problems with any MacBooks. Most Wi-Fi problems can be traced to router problems. The best test to narrow the problem is to take computer somewhere else and see if the problem also occurs with other Wi-Fi networks, or only one.

And what “Wi-Fi cards”? No computer made in at least the past 10 years (maybe as much as 20) has had a “Wi-Fi card”.
