Epson printer "filter error" stopped printing

Several topics have discussed this, with lots of advice to reinstall drivers, reset the printing system, etc.

But this error just happened with our Epson printer on my MacBook Pro, my iPhone, and my wife's Chromebook, simultaneously.

It's the printer!
