How can I update my iPhone to use UPI?

The people who make the rules for the UPI payment system no longer allow UPI payments on any version of iOS earlier than iOS 17.

Since the iPhone X cannot run iOS 17 or higher, they are, in effect, telling you that if you want to use their payment system, you must buy a new phone.

That is as far as you can update an iPhone X – unless Apple decides to release another iOS 16 update, such as, say, a hypothetical iOS 16.7.11.

You cannot update an iPhone X to iOS 17 or higher, and therefore, you cannot update an iPhone X far enough to make or receive UPI payments on it. As long as the people who make the rules for the UPI payment system are insistent that all iPhone transactions take place on iOS 17 or higher, you will have to get a phone which satisfies their requirements – or do without the ability to make and receive UPI payments on your phone.

The iPhone X is not compatible with iOS 17 or higher.

It can not be updated further.

If your iPhone X is running iOS 16.7.10, that is as far as you can update it, for now. If there is ever another iOS 16 bug fix release, you will presumably be able to update your iPhone X to it.

However, your iPhone X is not compatible with iOS 17 or 18 and will never offer you an update to either one.

UPI has made the decision to abandon iPhone users who have older iPhones running iOS 15 and iOS 16.

Because of this, UPI is now demanding that users must have an iPhone XR or higher model to run their UPI apps.

UPI expects you to understand their decision, which forces you to buy a new iPhone if you want to run UPI apps.
