Voicemail notifications does not have any messages

I have the red dot on my phone showing on the Home Screen, and on the Voicemail tab when I open the phone app, but when I call voicemail there are no messages. How can I get rid of the red dot?!

If you remember how, try calling into your voicemail the old-fashioned way. For my carrier, you dial *86. See if there's anything to delete. Sometimes, things get stuck.

If that doesn't work, call your carrier. They may need to reset the voicemail alert in your account.

Ok so finally solved this myself … first turn off live voicemail so that only the network provider voicemail is available. Then ring yourself from another phone and leave a message. Then call your network provider voicemail and delete the message. Finally switch live voicemail back on. The network provider voicemail notification red dot has finally gone, woo hoo!
