It doesn't happen at start-up, but while in use. About 12 beeps, then it stops. Laptop is only eight months old.

I read somewhere that some malware can cause beeping. MalwareBytes is trusted to detect and remove malware.
Going to Mac App Store and select the "Free Download" of MalwareByte and follow their directions.
