Find My works best for lost devices, but any devices that are out of communications, with battery depleted, or other such cannot be remotely located.

Thieves that wish to avoid arrest and prosecution usually try to avoid allowing their location to be remotely determined, too.

Seems you encountered a competent thief, which means you likely won’t be seeing that iPhone ever again.

It is also recommended to report the stolen device to your local law enforcement and your cellular provider.

The location will not be available if the device cannot connect to the internet. This could be due to a:

  • Dead battery
  • Removal of SIM card
  • No other iPhone nearby to transmit the location

In addition, do not remove the device from Find My and be aware that scammers may attempt to contact you if you provided any details when it was marked as lost. They may pretend to be from Apple and request your Apple ID/Password so they will be able to reset the device and use it as their own.
