IOS18/airpods won’t read text messages.

I have AirPods and yesterday I purchased airpods4. Before IOS18, I would get notifications of all emails and text messages AND it would read my text messages when I was using my AirPods. Now it only notifies me. WHY? I’ve tried everything, including asking ChapGPT.
