Looking for batch image converter software for Windows or Mac

Do you have any recommendations for batch image converter software? I recently have a project that requires me to convert hundreds of images into different formats. I used a software before, but it always crashed when processing large batches of files, which gave me a headache.

Is there any recommended image converter software that you have used that is stable and easy to use? It would be best if it is for PC, with simple and direct functions! Windows or Mac would be fine, anything that can handle bulk processing without lag.

It is actually quite convenient to use Automator, which comes with macOS, to batch convert image formats. Although it may be a bit confusing when you use it for the first time, it will be very useful once you get used to it! I used it to convert a bunch of PNG to JPG before. Here are the specific steps:

Steps:

  1. Open Automator on your Mac (you can find it by searching with Spotlight).
  2. Create a new "Workflow".
  3. Find "Files and Folders" in the "Library" on the left, and drag "Get Specified Finder Items" to the workspace on the right.
  4. Then click the "Add" button and select all the images you want to convert.
  5. Find "Photos" in the "Library" on the left, and drag "Change Image Type" to the workspace.
  6. The default is to change to JPEG. You can click the drop-down menu to change it to the format you need, such as PNG or WebP.
  7. If you don't want to overwrite the original file, you can add another step, such as "Copy Finder Items", which will save the converted file to the specified folder.
  8. Click "Run" in the upper right corner, wait a few seconds to a few minutes (depending on the size of the file), and you're done! The converted file will be saved to the path you selected or the original folder.

This method is especially suitable for friends who don't want to install third-party image converter for mac software, and it's not difficult to operate. However, if the file size is particularly large (such as thousands of photos), it may be a bit slow. You can try it, it can handle hundreds of photos!

Not all batch image converter software maintain image quality during the conversion process. I chose one that was super fast but ended up with pixelated images that looked terrible. Whenever you find a potential converter, check if it offers settings to control output quality. Options for maintaining original quality or adjusting resolution can make a big difference.

Some image converters software can be painfully slow, especially when processing large batches. I once tried a program that nearly made me pull my hair out waiting for it to finish. Read user feedback on performance to gauge how fast it is. You want something that won’t have you staring at a loading screen for ages!

XnConvert is actually a solid choice if you’re looking for a batch image converter! While the basic functions are user-friendly, some of the more advanced options might take a little fiddling to fully grasp. If you're just looking for easy one-click conversions, it might feel like overkill initially.

Some users have reported bugs or crashes, especially with particularly large batches. I didn’t run into this too personally, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re working with a ton of images at once.

Depending on the specific tasks you set, the speed can vary. Some users have noted that it can take time if applying extensive edits to large files, so if speed is your top priority, you might want to compare with other tools.

Hi,
XnConvert is available at Mac App Store for free.

Thanks for recommending XnConvert, but I have actually used it, and I don't know if it's because I'm unlucky, but it feels a bit useless. Although it has many functions and supports various formats, it is a bit slow when processing batches, and it has been stuck and even crashed several times. Especially when processing hundreds of pictures, the efficiency is really not good.

Have you used XnConvert to convert a large number of pictures? How is the effect? Do you have any other more stable or faster recommendations? I really want to find a worry-free and reliable image converter tool now!
