Using Ipad as an extra screen connected to laptop with Wifi

I'm looking for the possibility to connect an extra screen to my laptop using the wifi connection.

At least I have the need to see some screens from applications (navigation software I run on my laptop. It would be realy great if I also had the possibility to use the touchscreen of the Ipad for these applications as well.

I know there are screens connected with USB cables, but that's not an option. The only screen I found for this special purpose was way more expensive than an Ipad, so this looks like a perfect solution.

Is there anybody who tried this?

Can't be done. iPad does not have video input capability.

Not using an iPad.

Far better just to buy a cheap external monitor, although it won't work over WiFi. WiFi isn't used for connecting extra screens.

Actually, it can be done. Apps like iDisplay, Air Display, or AirScreen will allow you to use your iPad as an additional display. They're certainly not very useful for anything that needs high refresh rates but it's working fine for more static content like palettes or status windows.

Just like Dhaun said. Air Display is the best app! Little Lag and it can also be interacted with the touch screen! It is very well possible!

Hi,

I've tried the VNC viewer and it looks nice. By using it I have a so called clone of my laptop on my Ipod or Ipad.

Does anybody know if I kan use it as an extra (extended)screen so that I can have different screens on my laptopdisplay and on my Ipod/Ipad?

Air display makes the iPad an extra monitor in extended mode so you just slide over the window to the second display which is the iPad. So yes both screens will be different.

Not sure if clone mode works as I did not try it.

I understand Air Display is only for apple notebooks. I am in the posession of another brand, running on MS software (XP and Vista). does air displ run on windows as well??

I've tried air displai on my Ipod touch and it connects perfectly to my Vista laptop. Now I have another challenge.

I have no problem connecting the Ipod through my router (or any router) using wifi. The issue is I need to contact the laptop with wifi at locations where I don't have an existing network through a router.

I've created an so called ad-hoc network in Vista. It's WPA-2. This network appears as an available network on the display of my Ipod, but wgen I try to make a connection it says it was unable to make this connection.

Anybody out there who has an idea???

The reason I use My Ipod is that I already am in the posession of this device. If it works I intend to purchase an Ipad. Dous anybody know if there is a difference between Ipod touch and Ipad in terms of connecting to an ad-hoc network?

As far as I'm aware you have to go through your local network or a wi-fi hot spot to achieve this. You cannot connect an iPad directly to a computer using an ad-hoc connection with wi-fi.
