I have a perfectly working Early 2011 Macbook Pro that has enough memory and storage. I have not used it much in about a year so I am behind on updating the OS. I have macOS High Sierra (10.13.6). I am not able to use my browsers because they are requesting that I have either 10.14 or 10.15 or later in order to use them. But I cannot seem to update my computer. Why?
High Sierra is the end of the line for that Mac, a Mac that originally came with a version of Snow Leopard.
There is a version of Firefox that will run on High Sierra. It no longer gets new features, and it was to have stopped getting security updates - but apparently will now be in line to get them for a few months longer.

Your 2011 MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded beyond macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra. You’ve come to the end of the upgrade path, my friend.
It’s about time to replace the obsolete hardware.
All newer OS versions require a Metal-capable graphics card.
