screen brightness dimming

My screen is often too dark to read clearly. When I go to the Brightness Setting, I can slide the bar over to the right to increase the screen's brightness, but after time, it is dim again. Is there a way to bypass this (assumed) energy-saving feature so that I always have a screen bright enough to read?

Let’s check if Auto Brightness is enabled. Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > scroll down > Auto Brightness

Auto Brightness, if enabled, uses the ambient light sensor to monitor room lighting and adjust screen brightness for battery conservation and viewing ease. You may want to disable Auto Brightness to adjust to your particular viewing conditions and needs. Too high a brightness will cause a decrease in battery capacity for daily use.
