Final Cut 11.0 not importing .mp4 files when set to import to library.

Final Cut 11.0 not importing .mp4 files when set to import to library instead it leaves the files in place on the external drive and creates aliases in the Final Cut Library. I am using a new Mac mini and 11.0 I do not have this issue with older versions of Final Cut. My 2019 Mac Pro imports the same files like it should in 10.8.1. Oddly it does import my quicktime screen recordings that I imported into the same library.

The answer is when clicked on the Library - storage locations "modify settings" option was set to one of my external drives instead of the Library. I have never gone into this menu before today feeling silly... but for some reason unlike on my mac pro with the older version 10.8.1. 11.0 changed it from store in library to store on my attached SSD. Live and learn...

I believe I have found the problem. I was using a SAMSUNG T9 SSD with files recorded from an atem switcher. I did not reformat the drive after purchase, and was using the original format that came on the drive (exfat) which if you look at the info under sharing it has "customized" sharing permissions(?) So if you're using one of these drives out of the box, FCP11 will not bring the files over, and will make it an alias no matter what you do. I dragged the files off the SSD and onto my desktop (which will work) then imported them in and they transferred over just fine. If you try to import from the Samsung T9, it will not, and will not give you any error messages also, no matter how hard you try or setting to copy to library. It just won't do it. Lesson learned, always format your ssd, even if it's new. Check your ssd sharing permissions on your external ssd, or maybe it's just exfat formatting (?) I'm not a techno wizard so it still may be something else particular with these drives. Samsung and Apple never liked playing well together. I blame Samsung.....

Yes even though I changed the settings they still don’t import to the library, my work around is to alt click the library and “show packages” and the drag the clips I imported that are already in the timeline into the “Original Media” folder. This worked as a temp fix until Apple fixes it with an update. I ejected the drive the media was originally on and it seems to work with the files that I moved into the library.

I'm having this same problem also. I imported .mp4 files from the media import window, have checked the button to copy files to library, but it will not. My library settings also are set to store in the library which is on one external drive. The files I'm importing are on another external drive. I've tried everything to get these files stored into the library, (Consolidate) but FCP11 refuses to bring them over. I've never had this problem before. Seems the only way to get these onto the other hard drive is to manually drag them onto the other SSD. Unless I want to keep them outside the library. Glitch? Anyone else replicate problem?

Spoke to soon, same problem as first noted, it is a bug with 11 as I can copy the clips into my Mac Pro with the older version without issue the way I always have. I have reported it to Apple. I don’t need to share all my settings / info with Tom and the discussion forum-police. I post to see if others are having the same issue and apparently some are.
