When I select allow mobile data switching, the voice only sim does not pick up the data

iOS 18.2 on iPhone 12 using an eSIM for voice only number and a physical sim with data. I have selected the physical sim for mobile data and chose allow mobile data switching. However the eSIM (voice only) is not picking up the data.

For voice-only SIM/eSIM plans, automatic mobile data switching is disabled. This means your device will not automatically prioritize or switch to that SIM for data usage.


If mobile data switching is enabled on your device, it allows for seamless data usage across all your active SIM/eSIM cards. The device will intelligently select the SIM with the best available data connection based on factors like signal strength and data availability. This ensures you always have the strongest and most reliable data connection, regardless of your location or network conditions.
