Can I restore Calendar Search functionality on iOS 18?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone SE 1st gen to iPhone SE 3rd gen, so I have also gone from iOS 15.8.3 to iOS 18.2. I transferred everything to my new phone automatically. All the calendar events show up on the new phone, and the reminders show up as well. When I search, though, it ONLY returns reminders as results and not calendar events. When I search, for example, for dentist, it does not list my upcoming appointment or my past appointments. This is a CRITICAL function. It still works on my old phone, so it seems to be something with the iOS version. I've checked all the settings that I can find, so any suggestions are appreciated.
