Why is my external DVD drive not recognized on my Mac running Sequoia?

Transfer music with an External DVD Drive?

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro , IMacOS Sequoia 15.1.

My external DVD drive is an Amicool 3.0 Type-C CD DVD =/-RW Optical Drive.

Plugged type-C directly into computer port. Put a CD into external and pushed in to turn on. It is not recognized:

The external DVD drive doesn’t appear listed in the Mac Menu / USB / CONTROL CENTER. no icon on the computer screen. 

Any ideas as to what the problem is and/or how to connect the external drive for transferring CD and DVD music into the music app? Much simpler on my old Mac!
