Hi, Monitorlighting, i don’t know exactly what year and model of MacBook you have so can only give you general value help.. restart mac holding down “shift” key until you see “safe mode” on your monitor… let go of “shift” key.. is problem gone ? Then it was probably software/application problem. Is problem not gone-still there ? yes? Then is probably hardware problem.. if so then maybe call/contact apple store with genius bar or AASP ( apple authorized service provider) near you. Take it in for an evaluation. At an apple store, evaluation is always free. For AASP can’t say for sure, you’d have to contact them. I hope you have valid AppleCare+
