Command X not working on my MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.2

I can't use command X or command V to move even simple files from one place to another on my new macbook pro.

I the Edit menu those commands are always greyed out.

Drag and drop is very tedious solution when moving files from deep on one folder tree to another folder someplace else on my drive.

I've used this feature for years, but now nothing on newest macbook.

That is because macOS is not Windows.

  • Command-C — to tell Finder you are interested in this file
  • Command-Option-V — to move the Command-C file.
  • Command-V — to make a copy of the Command-C file.

thanks Bob, I know all this. I've been using macs for 15 years, including the command-c operations to move files, but this morning nothing would work. Command-C did nothing; command-V did nothing, nor could I use the copy option inside the Edit menu.

I updated to 15.2 this after this began, hoping that would solve the problem. After twice restarting the mac, command-c began working again.

An apple mystery.
