Since I updated MacOS Sequoia, Apple Mail has become very slow to load new messages, and it seems to be getting slower. For the last few days, it's taken 5+ minutes to download and display new messages. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this? Thanks.

It might be that XProtect is scanning the mail for malware. It could also be that your system has other apps running in the background at the same time taking up time on the cpu and in RAM and in Virtual Memory.
Since I upgraded to Sequioa I've had some issues with my CPU running hard. I've talked to Apple support about this and they can't figure it out. I haven't changed what I run in the background. Mail is the only program that seems to have this issue though.
By the way, I am not running a VPN or Private Relay. I have a fast internet connection.
