iPhone 15 Pro Max hacked with clampi virus from China and Germany

I was told by someone from Apple that my iPhone was taken over and hacked by someone in China in Germany and that my iPhone 15 Pro Max has a clampi virus, but then my car was lost and I have no idea what to do if that’s true

It is a common scam and you were in contact with a fake Apple Support employee. The important information that is missing is how you came in contact with the employee. Was it:

  • email claiming you have a virus with contact number
  • message claiming you have a virus with contact number
  • website popup claiming you have a virus with contact number

The Clampi virus was reported in 2007 and only affected Microsoft Windows Computers. Not even possible to run on your phone. Now it is only a topic of fake tech scammers.

I don't know who told you this, but it's unlikely that it was actually an Apple employee. There are no known viruses that can affect an iPhone unless it has been jailbroken. Other forms of malware are also highly unlikely.

What are you seeing that makes you think there is a problem with your iPhone? Please describe the specific issues.

What does your car have to do with this?

Yes, I got a text message saying I had a been hacked. Had a virus.

As long as you did not provide them with any personal information, you are fine. Clicking any link will not compromise your phone, but does notify the scammer that you may be susceptible into believing their claims and are now likely to receive more of those kind of messages.

If you did call or click a link AND provide them with your personal information/passwords, then there will need to be additional steps taken to secure your account.
