gmail download to iphone slow…

For years now, from iphone 8 to 14 and on ipad, gmail downloads to IOS devices is slow, slow, slow…. I saw another post which was simply abandoned, with 167 me too’s.

Weirdly, icloud mail is virtually instantaneous.

Why?

I don’t want to be cyclical and suggest Google or Apple make it this way, but why else?

Please help with a honest reply apple support team.
