It is the developer of the app that chooses which iOS versions they want to support. Some no longer support older devices such as the iPhone 6. Your iPhone does not have the hardware capabilities to be updated to any newer iOS version, since it was released 10 years ago. If you want a newer iOS version, you will need to purchase a newer phone that is capable of running it.

Re: “how come I cant update it”

Apple hasn’t told us “why,” but it is not too hard to guess. Hardware has improved in ten years time and your phone has very outdated hardware by the standards of today.

Every iPhone that can run anything higher than iOS 12 has at least 2 GB of RAM. Some have as much as 8 GB. The iPhone 6 has only 1 GB. Every iPhone that can run anything later than iOS 15 has at least a rudimentary Neural Engine. The iPhone 6 has none.

App developers could release apps that would run on iOS 12 and your iPhone, but many have apparently decided that they would rather not incur extra support costs just to support people who are hanging on to outdated iPhones.
