Why is my iPhone Pro Max 16 shooting wide open?

settings are in my screenshot

my Fusion camera 24mm lens shooting wide open at f/1.78 at 1/2000th second (plus) in strong light, static scene

i'm seeing this a lot -- is this Apple Intelligence

would be nice to get a couple stops down for depth of field -- certainly don't need 2000/sec shutter on a wide angle lens

any help would be appreciated -- i'm in point and shoot mode -- not really wanting to have to make manual adjustments on every shot...

>>Apple iPhone cameras always shoot wide open because they do not have an aperture.

Mr. Jeff gave me the answer on another thread, thank you.

found the specs on this apple link:

iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max - Technical Specifications - Apple

Copy/paste from the Apple link -- it references ONLY one aperture so that would explain why my 24mm only captures still at ƒ/1.78 aperture:

  • Pro camera system
  • 48MP Fusion: 24 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture, second‑generation sensor‑shift optical image stabilization, 100% Focus Pixels, support for super‑high‑resolution photos (24MP and 48MP)
  • Also enables 12MP 2x Telephoto: 48 mm, ƒ/1.78 aperture, second generation sensor‑shift optical image stabilization, 100% Focus Pixels
  • 48MP Ultra Wide: 13 mm, ƒ/2.2 aperture and 120° field of view, Hybrid Focus Pixels, super-high-resolution photos (48MP)
  • 12MP 5x Telephoto: 120 mm, ƒ/2.8 aperture and 20° field of view, 100% Focus Pixels, seven-element lens, 3D sensor-shift opti

still haven't figured this one out -- a similar scene on a different day, same lens, exposed f/1.78 at 1/3279 sec (the ASA/ISO looks a good choice tho)

basic 101 photography -- I don't understand this wide-open, super high shutter approach on such a wide lens in strong daylight...
