Can I revert to the Mail App after the iOS 18.2 update

Just updated to 18.2. The Mail App is terrible. I just want it to be how it was, I don’t know, the entire time I’ve been in the iOS ecosystem. You know, like 10+ years.

Newer does not mean better! Just because you change something doesn’t mean you’re improving it. Please send an update so we can choose which way we want mail to show on the app

Amazingly, you have that choice already! It doesn’t require an update! And how to do that has been posted in this thread dozens of times! To save you the trouble of reading:

To remove the icons in the list view:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Tap Mail
  • Turn off Show Contact Photos
  • Optionally, turn off Summarize Message Previews

To turn off Categories:

  • Open the Mail app
  • Tap on an inbox
  • Tap on ⋯⃝ in the upper right
  • Tap to check List View

These 2 steps will return the Mail app to the way it previously worked.

I absolutely hate my email now, I want it back how it used to be, even my recent emails in all my different folders are gone.

It is not possible to revert to the previous version of Mail. However, you can make adjustments in the new version that may make it easier to user. Look for Lawrence Finch's post of March 17th.

You can also let Apple know your thoughts here:

Product Feedback - Apple

You may also want to consider looking at another email program. I'd start with Outlook.

The new email format that came along with the latest IOS upgrade is AWFUL,
and selecting the “list” option doesn’t help much. Bring the former, more simple in every way, format back.

Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Meanwhile, perhaps consider trying one of the many other email apps available. Outlook seems to be popular among people who don't like Mail.

Please give us the roll back options.
No one participating in this forum can change how your iPhone works. If you want Apple to know your thoughts, use the feedback page:

However, as was already pointed out by lkrupp, you can revert to the list view. Directions have been provided.

As previously discussed, NOBODY ever reads a thread before adding to it. If people did every thread would have only a few replies, not the current 6 pages for this one of 60 for another “popular” thread.

I am in OS 18.3.1 on iPhone SE3 and am in list view and the mail is still using categories w colored icons. I absolutely hate it and want a way to return completely to the way it was before w no icons and NO categories. Its absolute madness. And there seems NO way to get back to the simpler old way. Please help us make this happen. Give us directions that can FIX THIS please.
Thank you.

As has been posted at least a dozen times in the thread you just added to:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Scroll down and tap Mail
  • Scroll down and turn off Show Contact Photos

You can sort threads by oldest, newest, or most upvoted. Unfortunately, the default is the most upvoted. Click on your icon at the top right and choose preferences, and you can choose a more logical sort order.

As the thread is hard to follow:

To remove the icons in the list view:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Tap Mail
  • Turn off Show Contact Photos
  • Optionally, turn off Summarize Message Previews

To turn off Categories:

  • Open the Mail app
  • Tap on each Inbox
  • Tap on ⋯⃝ in the upper right
  • Tap to check List View

These 2 steps will return the Mail app to the way it previously worked.
