The reason is that you did not close Private Browsing.

In my opinion Turn Private Browsing on or off on your iPad - Apple Support does not explain it very well. To close Private Browsing, tap "Close All xx Tabs" and everything that happened in Private Browsing will be erased. Tabs, windows, history, cookies, everything, erased.

Conversely, until you do that, nothing will be erased.

… uttered about it being vital in achieving a history free browsing experience . Must be my lucky day , had you not shared your wisdom I don't know when I would have made the connection , how long have we had private browsing now ?

🥇 Not a total debacle … I discovered something useful , " export Safari data to another browser on iPad " . I can move the Safari data to DuckDuckGo or Google Chrome , then I can unravel my Safari conundrums without agonizing over data loss .

Reply to John Galt … Private Browsing

Hi John ,

Hope this post is finding you well today . So I've been reading all night and surmised that your opinion is 💯 correct . It tells you to turn private browsing on / off with those tab buttons and about clearing the history , cache & cookies . It directs you to tap on

all of those X's though not a syllable
