How can I stop the Reuters links opening the Reuters app in Safari on Mac?

In Safari on my Mac in Sonoma, I did a search for a Reuters article. I clicked on the result and it opened the tiny Reuters app on my Mac. And of course, it didn't show the article I clicked on. I didn't ask for this.

Why is a link from Reuters in Safari opening the Reuters app and how can I stop it? I NEVER asked for this and NEVER want this to happen.

How do I stop this terrible behavior. There is no documentation on how to stop this. I'll probably have to delete the Reuters app.

There's no mechanism like a… PREFERENCE to control whether Safari opens an http or https link in Safari or in another app?

> you can "long press" the link and choose Open.

Tried that. A long press on my Mac in Sonoma does nothing. I counted to 5 in my head while holding the trackpad button down, nothing appeared, I released it and it opened the Reuters app (which is small and its window is NOT resizable) This is crazy.

Why is there no user control over this? I never asked for Reuters's app to open http links from Safari.

If I have to dive into developer docs to find out how to disable unasked for functionality, something's seriously wrong. ALL I'm trying to do is click a link in Safari and have it open in Safari. What's happening should NEVER happen without a user directed action.

And deleting the app is the recommended action?

I've already spent WAY WAAAAY too much time today on this basic functionality question.
