When mirroring the iPhone to a Mac, where the photo on the iPhone is in HEIC-format and the settings are set to keep the original file format, hence keeping HEIC, drag and drop from iPhone Photos to Mac desktop the format is converted to .jpg. If airdrop is used, the file format stays HEIC.
Why does it convert automatically to .jpg in the mirroring drag and drop function, and not keeping .HEIC as it does for airdrop?

Drag and drop has never really been supported in Photos. There's no way to know if drag & drop transfers originals or edited version, with or without metadata, full sized or preview copies, and so on. This even changes from OS to OS without comment. You won't find drag and drop in the documentation for Photos, because it's not there.
Photos uses Import and Export to be clear on what it does. I do use drag and drop for putting pictures in mail and texts, since I don't mind smaller images, for instance. But I check after a major OS change to be sure I know what it does. And, after testing, I use drag and drop to import picture files from Finder. But I promise myself that I won't be surprised if I find that it does something differently that before.
For moving several pictures from one Library to another, I use the trusted 3rd party app PowerPhotos ($30.) I'm not sure if it works with iPhone and iPad Libraries-- I need to try that.
Thank you. Then i guess I need to rethink my workflow. Better to use then airdrop to transfer photos from iphone to mac then using the mirroring function and copy from there to the mac. Bit disapointing that settings are over ruled by apple in this case.
