HP Laserjet 1022 Filter Error on MacBook Air M3

This is the demonstration of the power of Apple Community Help. Just the time to write and send this message: I tested again and I was able to print. It remain the question why I spent 2 hours to test without result.

Printing to HP Laserjet 1022 from Sequoia 1022 installed on the new MacBook Air M3 of my wife looks impossible due to "Filter" error. The printer is connected to the USB Port of the router. No problem to print to a second Printer Epson also connected to same net with its own WiFi.

The MBA has been prepared with Migration Assistant from a MBP i7 2017 which is still able without problem to the same printers as he did for years.

I deinstallend and reinstalled the printer from the MBA several times without any result.

Another strange thing is my Mac Mini M2 and MBP M1 both on the same Network which print without problem on the HP. The driver is Laserjet 1022 1.6.1 on all Macs and seems impossible to find a driver replacement.

Yes I know the printer is probably more than 25 years old and it would be a small expense the buy a new one with WiFi connection, but wy...?

Thanks for any suggestion

To find out what HP filter is failing and why:

Enable cups debugging in Terminal:

cupsctl --debug-logging

print a job to cause the failure, and then look in error_log from /var/log/cups.

There will be a line that says what filter is failing and why. Since the HP drivers were copied over with Migration Assistant, it's probable that the old drivers don't support ARM machines. If that's the case, you'll see something like "Bad CPU Type" in the error_log.

Hope this helps.
