Can anyone help, I’ve tried resetting my mothers Macbook and claim it as mine and when resetting I came across the Macintosh HD unlock. However after countless times of getting the correct password it will keep popping up. If anyone can help this would be fantastic.

A firmware password may not be the same an a macOS admin login password.
If you don't know the firmware password, then your mother will need to take the laptop to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider along with valid acceptable proof of purchase & personal ID so Apple can remove the firmware lock. I would recommend contacting the Apple Store or AASP first to confirm exactly what paperwork they will accept since Apple has very stringent rules for what is acceptable proof of purchase & ID.

IF you are encountering this issue please first try to reset the password using this If you can't reset your Mac login password – Apple Support (UK) it will help you unlock the "Macintosh HD" and then you can erase and reinstall macOS using recovery
