FaceTime Photos are Randomly Horizontal instead of Verical

FaceTime photos are randomly being taken as horizontal instead of vertical, despite both the other person and my phone being held vertically, as well as the screen showing vertical orientation. The photos are cropped so I can only see a tiny portion of what I originally wanted to capture and I cannot see the person’s entire face. I investigated by using screen orientation lock and orienting my phone sideways, but when I took pictures in any combination, the photos came out fine and as vertical, so the way I hold my phone or screen lock cannot be the factor that is causing this issue.
