Short circuit on the processor

I recently faced a devastating issue with my iPhone 12 Pro. It was diagnosed with a short circuit in the processor, which is irreparable. Unfortunately, this also means I cannot recover any of my data. I didn’t have a backup of my photos, and my iCloud plan didn’t have enough storage to cover all of them.

As a first-time mom, I was overwhelmed and didn’t have the time to think about securing my photos, so I’ve now lost all the precious memories from my baby’s first year. I always assumed that even if a phone is broken, there would be a way to recover the data. However, I’ve learned the hard way that, in the case of iPhones, this isn’t possible if the processor is damaged.

I strongly feel there should be a clear notification or warning when purchasing an iPhone, emphasizing the importance of backing up your data. People need to be made aware that if their phone sustains certain types of damage, it might be impossible to recover their data because of manual confirmation of connection to computer on the screen of the phone.

Well, this isn’t really an issue solely with an iPhone. This is an issue with all storage devices, such as computers, cameras, hard drives, and ANY issue they may face. It is always vitally important to have a backup of all personal data. Without a backup the same problem would occur if the phone was lost, dropped in a toilet, stolen, run over by a car, or other damage.

If you have data stored in only one place, and a catastrophe happens that takes out that place, your data is gone. That catastrophe could be due to any number of things – including hardware failure, theft, fire, or natural disaster (e.g., hurricane, tornado, flood). Or accidental damage (dropping a device, exposing it to liquids, etc.).

That's not just true of iPhones, but of any type of computer, smartphone, tablet, or similar electronic device. Even with hardcopies, if your only copies of your family photos are on prints and negatives stored in your home – and a devastating fire burns your home to the ground – those photos will be gone forever.
