macbook air 2017 SDcard max storage support

Can the macbook air 2017 support an sdcard 512gb? and what is the maximum storage capacity it can detect for an SD card.

I don't know the answer to your question.


MacTracker indicates that the card slot is a SDXC card slot. SD Association – Capacity (SD/SDHC/SDXC/SDUC) indicates that the SDXC standard is for cards with "more than 32 GB" and "up to 2 TB." So if you come across a card which has more than 2 TB (not that you're likely to come across one in the near future), you'll know for sure that it is incompatible and will require an external reader.


MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) - Technical Specifications - Apple Support confirms that the slot is a SDXC slot.


Use the SD and SDXC card slot on your Mac - Apple Support doesn't go into much more detail.


P. S.: Do be careful when buying high-capacity cards as there are many scammers who sell cards rigged to report more capacity than they actually provide. You may not discover this until after you have stored a lot of data – then tried to read some of the data you stored first, only to discover that it's gone.
