Unable to send Photos through Text immediately after capturing on my iPhone 16

I got a new phone (iPhone 16) and am now on iOS 18.1. When I take a photo and then select it from Photos, and then select the person/method to send it to (for example, Joe via text message), it opens the text for that person but does NOT attach the photo. So there's nothing to send.

I found a workaround, which is to open a new text for the person I want to send the photo to, and select Photos from the + icon and choose the one I want to send. That works fine.

Or, if I wait at least an hour, I can send it from Photos - problem only occurs when photo has just been taken.

This seems like a bug to me and I'm wondering when this will be fixed.

I, too, just bough a new 16! I tried it out just now, and texting a new picture by sharing worked fine, for me. So it's not a bug, unless somehow our 16s are different in some way. I'm on 18.2, but I doubt that's it.

Have you tried a forced restart?

Thanks for the suggestion, I thought I had tried that - but just tried it now, and it worked as expected. Was not working last night, so it's a big YAY.

What I don't understand is the difference between a "reboot" and a "forced restart" - seems to be the same but is there some distinction? Googling did not give me a clear answer.

I rebooted/restarted by pressing the volume up button on the left at the same as the right side button, and using the slider to power off.

Going to upgrade to 18.2 now, hope my other minor issues get resolved...

A simple re-start shuts down apps nicely before turning off. Forced re-start just pulls the plug. Shutting apps down nicely means they may start back up with the same problem
