My Apple iMac M1 Bluetooth connection is sporadic. Both my keyboard and mouse pause when trying to use these devices. Turning bluetooth on and off doesn't do anything. And I've tried all the advice on the Internet to no avail. So I think a reset is in order so how do I do it. Don't say use "Opt + shift because that doesn't work.

Apple seems to have removed the debug option in the Bluetooth menu, so using the <shift><option> key pair will not work, as you found out.
Instead, you will need to use the following command in the Terminal app to restart the Bluetooth module:

Well I was finally able to delete -Library/Preferences/com.apple. Bluetooth.plist and that did the trick. I am now a happy bluetooth user. Thanks for the advice.
Neither suggestions worked. Using the terminal and after typing the command words it would not type my password. Second suggestion would not allow me to delete the system file. There wasn't even a delete button and I did unlock the file to no avail.
