I see now, thank you for the screenshot. That is all apart of the new Mail Categories sorting feature, where your Mail will be sorted into different categories with different icons to represent. To my recollection there is no current way to get rid of it, but you are welcome to provide Apple with your feedback regarding this ⇢ Feedback - Mail - Apple

Hello all,

Go to Settings > Apps > Mail and turn off “Show Contact Photos”. This will remove those icons.

Are you referring to a sender that is flagged as VIP? Please provide a screenshot so we can better assist you.

No idea but it’s frekin ugly. Look like it should be in app for little kids.
