In ios 18.2 email categories were forced upon us, and display a huge icon before emails in list view. To me, these are not at all helpful, and actually make it much harder for me to quickly process my emails. Please update ios quickly to make this an optional 'feature'!

Thanks. Yes, I switched to list view, and all that does is remove the row of categories at the top, and make it where they can't be limited to just those categories. In list view, all of the icons are still there to the left of each email.
Found it. Try turning off the option Show Contact Photos from the settings for mail
have you found the option to switch to list view? It is in the three dots at the top right. When I switched to list view it got rid of those category icons and gave me back the previous format for viewing emails.
Interesting. I don’t have the icons. Maybe restart the mail app after changing to list view? Maybe a bug that needs sorting.

Updated to iOS 18.2. Apple bl***y interfering again. On my iPad my mail is as per previous iOS but on iPhone I have changed to list view and can’t remove the category icons. DOH 😡
100% This is the fix. Tried it and it worked perfectly. The List View vs Category view did nothing.
Go to emails press the three dots you see options pick email list that way no categories any more.
