iMac running 15.1.1 taking way to long to load Safari 18.1.1 home page

Nothing else running. Not using a VPN. No hardware problems. When I start up in the morning with no other apps running Safari takes a minute or more to load my home page. I've changed my home page to something very simple (like DuckDuckGo) ... doesn't matter. Safari running very slow when first started. Why?
