Why would safari suggest deceptive links?

Hi everyone,

I recently had a disturbing experience where Safari suggested a malicious link (chat.whassapy.com) while I was typing “chat.whatsapp.” The link led to a disturbing .html page containing harmful content.

Here’s what happened:

1. I typed “chat.whatsapp” into Safari.

2. It autocompleted to “chat.whassapy.com,” a deceptive URL.

3. Upon visiting the site, it redirected to an https .html page hosting harmful and illegal material.

I don’t have WhatsApp installed on my iPhone, nor have I ever visited this website before. I’ve since cleared my Safari history and data, but I’m deeply concerned about why Safari would suggest such a link.

Does anyone know why this might have happened? Could this be a case of autocomplete pulling data from malicious trends or cached history?

Additionally, I want to ensure my iPhone 16 Pro Max is safe. I’ve cleared browsing data, updated my iOS, and checked for unknown profiles or apps. Are there any other steps I should take?

Thank you for any insights, and I hope Apple looks into blocking harmful links like this from appearing in autocomplete suggestions.
