sim card failure on iPhone 13 Pro

My daughter's iPhone 13 Pro just started getting a SIM Card Failure. We took it to Verizon who told us that this is a known issue with this phone after a recent ios upgrade, and it can't be fixed. Also tells us that they can't just use the eSim because that also was broken in the update. Only fix is to replace the phone. Both stories seem like total BS, so we are gonna take it to Apple, but can't get a genius appointment for 3 days. Has anyone heard of this?

I’m having the same issue with my iPhone 14Pro Max. What was Apple’s solution for getting it resolved? I am getting a similar run around from T-Mobile who says it is a software issue.

Went to the Apple Store who confirmed both the Physical Sim and eSim Reader are dead, and phone would need to be sent in for costly repairs. Wouldn't admin to what the Verizon Rep told us that this is being caused by an iOS upgrade. If that's the case, I'm super ****** at Apple. Had anyone else encountered this?

eSIM are basically controlled by the carrier, their servers install the eSIM on the iPhone. Carriers even write the software and firmware required for the eSIM to operate on their network.

Updates to eSIM can generally be done over the air by the carrier. I’m not sure how an iOS update would have affected their eSIM. But I suppose it could happen. You’ll need to discuss the issue with the lead Genius or store manager.

Got absolutely nowhere with Apple either online or instore. In chat with a senior agent they said if it was caused by an update it was just exposing a prexisting issue with the phone, and therefore not their fault. We couldn't even trade it in because it would fail the test for a trade-in. So infuriated with Apple we just went back to Verizon and bought a new phone through them, because at least we got a pretty good deal since she was due for an upgrade through them. Everyone we spoke to at Verizon said they have seen dozen of cases of this same issue recently. Though I normally would not believe Verizon over Apple, I do in this case. Lots of threads about this issue on Reddit.

That is very disappointing. I have seen a number of Reddit posts with similar issues as well. The idea of spending another $1000+ on a new iPhone when this one works just fine all because of an eSIM. Apple chose to move to eSIM only and now a repair like this requires replacing almost everything internally.
