iCloud “People and Pets” Facial Recognition Bugged

in my iCloud Photos under peoples and pets I have many faces that are in the album. This is mainly due to me having iCloud Photos enabled since I’ve had a phone, so I have pictures of my younger self from many many years ago.

The problem I am having is that I have a “face” for my younger self which stopped including photos about 3 years ago. I couldn’t seem to add my “recent face” because it was not popping up under the add new. However, my most recent pictures of myself are popping up under my brothers face. Even under grouped faces when I check to see which faces are included it’s my brothers face.

so my phone is recognizing my brothers face and my recent face as the same person but I want my younger and recent to be under one “person” and my brother to be under his own “person.”

How am I supposed to go about this? And will this require me to reset the people and pets section? Will that take forever to form everyone’s face and include every picture with them? Someone please help!!

Photos has found certain characteristics that it associates with both you and your brother, and it doesn't know characteristics that differentiate you two. So first, you have to erase everything it knows about either of you. And then, you need to let it identify each of you separately.

First, I would find every picture of "Me" that I could find, young, old, baby, etc, and put them all in a "Me" album. This so you can find them after the People album disappears. Then I'd find every picture of "Brother" and put them in a "Brother" album. (Personally, I would put "Me" or "Brother" in the Caption of each one so I could search for them.)

Then I'd go through all of your pictures where you are named "Me" or "Brother" or anyone else, and choose 'This is not "ME."' Then do the same with "Brother." Then I'd do a force reset:

You might need to wait a few days, and have your iPhone alone and plugged in overnight to let Photos settle a bit.

The ones that had face IDs as you or your brother should now have unknown IDs. You People albums should disappear.

Then go through and name all the pictures of you ( in the "ME" album) as "Myself." Don't name them "Me!" It may still have feelings for "Me." (So of course, use whatever name you like--just not the same one.) Name your brother's pictures "Bro."

After things settle again, you can rename "Myself" and "Bro" whatever you like.

Unlearning and re-learning names is hard for all of us!
