So what model it is, actually? That makes a big difference in what versions of macOS it will support. Go to About under the Mac menu and tell us what model name it says. Then we can tell you whether your Mac can run a newer version of macOS.

It's not an iMac. It's a MacBook if it has a 13" screen. The smallest screen on an iMac for the last twenty years has been 17".

It is not an iMac (an all-in-one desktop Mac that runs off wall power) if it is running Monterey. All of the 2017 iMacs have 21.5” or 27” screens.
